Birmingham City seek first home win against Middlesbrough

Birmingham City look to break a seven-game losing run against Middlesbrough and secure their first home victory of the Championship season this weekend.

Birmingham City must overcome a daunting recent record against Middlesbrough to claim a first home win of the Championship season. The Blues have lost each of their last seven league meetings with Boro, a run stretching back to a 2-0 victory at St Andrew's in October 2021 under Lee Bowyer.

That dismal sequence includes a 3-1 defeat in the last meeting at home in March. Michael Carrick's side arrive in the West Midlands sitting third in the table and on a five-game unbeaten run. They have also scored in each of their last 11 league outings.

For Birmingham, the challenge is clear. They have drawn all three of their home league games this term, sharing points with Wolves, Southampton and Brentford. The last time they drew each of their first four home matches was in the 2018-19 season. Tony Mowbray's men currently occupy 10th place with 10 points from seven games, a position built on a recent away win at Derby. The team's recent form shows they have scored 4 goals in their last 5 matches, averaging 0.8 goals per game, while their next fixture after this is a trip to face Sunderland.

The Blues will hope the momentum from that 2-1 victory at Pride Park can spark a change in fortune at St Andrew's. Middlesbrough, however, have proven resilient, having gained seven points from losing positions this season, more than any other Championship side.
