Birmingham City's long wait for a victory over Middlesbrough continues after a 2-2 draw at St Andrew's on Saturday. The result extends their winless run against Boro to seven Championship matches, stretching back to a 2-0 win in October 2021 under Lee Bowyer.
Bowyer had spoken before the game about the importance of ending that sequence. "Birmingham City are hoping to pick up their first home win of the season when they face Middlesbrough on Saturday," the former manager said.
The Blues have drawn all three of their home league games this season, a record they share with Cardiff City. Middlesbrough arrived in the Midlands on a five-game unbeaten streak and have now won on seven of their last eight visits to Birmingham.
Liam Millar and an own goal from Riley McGree put Birmingham 2-1 ahead after Max Arfsten's opener, but a late equaliser from A.Malanda denied them all three points. The draw leaves Birmingham 10th in the Championship with 11 points from eight games, six points behind leaders Swansea.
Attention now turns to a West Midlands derby away at fifth-placed West Brom on 10 October.
