Birmingham City have completed their final training session in Lagos, Portugal, ahead of Friday's pre-season opener against Huddersfield Town, with Chris Davies working on shape and set pieces.

What happened in Portugal?

The session started at 11am sharp, with Davies and his coaches, including Ben Petty, Tom Huddlestone, and Jonathan Grounds, overseeing a series of rondos.

The Blues boss then split his players into two groups, with one group working on shape out of possession and the other focusing on set pieces under new coach Scott Fry.

Set piece specialist Scott Fry

Fry has been tasked with improving Birmingham City's output on set pieces and was hands-on with the group, constantly showing them what he wanted and making himself heard.

When Demarai Gray whipped in an inswinger from the left, Fry clearly enjoyed the runs being made into the box by the attackers, describing it as 'absolute chaos'.

Pre-season expectations

Birmingham City will hope to carry this momentum into their pre-season opener against Huddersfield Town, as they look to build on their 10th-place finish in the Championship last season, with 64 points from 46 games, and a recent form of DWWDW. With 57 goals scored and 56 conceded, resulting in a +1 goal difference, the Blues will be looking to improve their set piece tally in the upcoming season. As the new season approaches, Birmingham City are 31 points behind leaders Coventry, but will be focusing on their own preparations, having drafted in youngsters Will O'Sullivan, Billy Burrell, Riquelme Thompson-Jones, and Briar Bateman to make up the numbers.
