Birmingham City have emerged as the latest suitors for FC Basel winger Philip Otele, with the Nigerian's club prepared to approve a sale for a fee of approximately €5m. According to reports, the Sky Bet Championship club is one of several teams interested in signing the 27-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Bundesliga club Hamburg. Otele failed to make much of an impact at the Volksparkstadion, scoring only once in nine league appearances. Despite this, FC Basel are reportedly willing to let him go for a fee of around €5m. Birmingham City's interest in Otele comes as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season. The team currently sits 10th in the Championship, 64 points from the top, with a goal difference of +1. They are 31 points behind leaders Coventry in the title race. With the transfer window set to close soon, Birmingham City will be hoping to make a few more signings to bolster their squad.
