A Birmingham City fan made a visual reference to Southampton's past spygate controversy during the Championship match between the two clubs. The supporter was pictured using binoculars and holding a tree branch inside St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park before the game on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The image, captured by photographer Jason Cairnduff for Action Images, circulated online following the fixture in the 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship season.
The fan's actions were a clear nod to an incident from Southampton's past. In 2023, the club was investigated for allegedly observing a training session of a rival team, a controversy that became known as 'spygate'. By holding binoculars and a branch, the Birmingham supporter created a humorous, pointed reminder of that episode. The stunt added a layer of off-pitch narrative to the matchday atmosphere at the stadium in Birmingham, Britain.
