Birmingham City defender Byron Pendleton is poised to complete a move to League Two side Shrewsbury Town. The 20-year-old spent last season out on loan with Yeovil and Brackley Town in the National League.

What happened?

Pendleton joined Birmingham City at the pre-academy stage when he was five and penned his first professional contract in October 2023. He signed an extension in early 2025 and was one of the youngsters included in Chris Davies’ first pre-season tour squad back in 2024.

Why it matters for Birmingham City

The move to Shrewsbury would see Pendleton reunite with manager Gavin Cowan who signed him for Brackley last season. Pendleton earned rave reviews for his performances on loan, despite Brackley suffering relegation from the National League.

What comes next?

Blues' under-21 set-up is undergoing something of a reshuffle after a disappointing first season in Premier League 2. Aurelien Guernier rejected the offer of a professional contract with Blues to join AC Milan last week. Blues have appointed ex-Wolves supremo Scott Sellars as their new under-21s chief and hired former favourite Darren Carter to manage loan moves for their best youngsters.

As of the end of the 2025/26 season, Birmingham City's league standing is 10th in Championship, with 64 points from 46 games, and a recent form of DWWDW. The team scored 57 goals and conceded 56, with a goal difference of +1. They finished 31 points behind leaders Coventry in the title race. | Category | Stat | | --- | --- | | League Standing | 10th | | Points | 64 | | Recent Form | DWWDW | | Goals Scored | 57 | | Goals Conceded | 56 | | Goal Difference | +1 | | Title Race | 31 points behind Coventry
